Manchester City could have a clear run at Monaco forward Kylian Mbappé with Jamie Jackson of The Guardian reporting tonight that Real Madrid will not be bidding for him this summer.
The Champions League holders have reportedly assured Gareth Bale that he is the future of the club, telling the 28-year-old Welshman that they are unlikely to attempt to sign Mbappé before next summer.
Given that Mbappé is strongly tipped to be on the move this summer, that could present Manchester City with a huge opportunity to sign the player, who was at City’s former Platt Lane complex in Manchester today for a Nike photo shoot, where he met Leroy Sané.
There have been suggestions that Bale, a Manchester United transfer target, would be the player to make way, with Mbappé having doubts about a move to the Madrid side for sporting reasons, specifically having the BBC (Bale – Benzema – Cristiano) in front of him and perhaps not very open to rotation.
And if Bale has now been told that he is going nowhere and is in fact seen as Madrid’s future, then Mbappé may not wish to hang around, giving Man City or another suitor able to afford Monaco’s eye-watering asking price – perhaps Barcelona – the chance to sign the most exciting young player in the world.
