Manchester United are the latest club in pursuit of Manchester City wonderkid Jadon Sancho, the Manchester Evening News reports today.
17-year-old Sancho is at loggerheads with City and as reported earlier failed to show up for training several times while the first team were on tour in the US.
Sancho is under contract with City but wants to quit the club out of fear that his pathway to Pep Guardiola’s first team squad will be blocked by the abundance of attacking talent the club possesses.
With rumours of homesickness, Arsenal and Tottenham have been mooted as his most likely destinations, but there is also interest from Germany with both Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig reported by local media to have shown him around their training facilities.
And now neighbours United are making a play for the England youth international, with the MEN reporting that they are ‘pushing hard’ to convince him to make the controversial switch from the City Football Academy to Carrington.
There have been rumours for months of Sancho’s unhappiness at City and they only intensified when he was left out of City’s traveling squad to America, which included a host of youngsters and saw the likes of Phil Foden, Brahim Diaz and Demeaco Duhaney see plenty of game time, with the mercurial Brahim scoring against both Real Madrid and Tottenham.
Sancho posted a shot of himself with Foden and Brahim – three of City’s finest prospects – on social media the other day, but it appears that unlike them, he sees his immediate future away from the Etihad unless the club can convince him otherwise.
