Napoli are poised to make a surprise move for young Manchester City midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko, Alfredo Pedulla of Sportitalia reports.
The Italian club are admirers of the Ukraine international, and see him as having similar technical qualities as their recent signing from Bordeaux, Adam Ounas, another 20-year-old.
And once they sell Emanuele Giaccherini, who is in negotiations with Sparta Prague, Napoli plan to open talks with Man City to discuss a deal for Zinchenko, who is currently on tour with the first team in the US.
Pedulla doesn’t state whether it would be a permanent or loan deal, with Napoli perhaps yet to learn how open City would be to selling a player they only signed a year ago in a £1.5million deal from FC Ufa.
Radio CRC have also reported Napoli’s interest in Zinchenko, adding that sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has been watching him since he was playing for Ufa.
Zinchenko had a disappointing 2016-17 season on loan at PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie, where he only played 493 minutes of league football all season. The youngster was eventually sent to Jong PSV, the B team who play in the second tier of Dutch football, and impressed at that level, registering 11 assists in his last 8 games.
And now City may have to decide if they should cash in on the promising talent (possibly including a buy-back clause) or look to loan him out again.
