Manchester City were beaten last night in the first ever Manchester derby held outside of the UK. It was a sluggish performance by the Blues, which shouldn’t be too surprising as it was their first pre-season game, while United had played twice previously.
It wasn’t all bad, with some good individual performances, Kyle Walker in particular looking impressive on his City debut. More than anyone in blue though, local boy Phil Foden stood out with an eye-catching display against a near full-strength United side.
Foden, 17, seemed to glide across the pitch effortlessly and United players showed him respect by standing off him. Pep said, “It’s a long time since I saw something like this. His performance was another level. He’s 17-years-old, he’s a City player.”
With several midfielders being sold off and apparently none on City’s radar, could Stockport lad Foden be part of Guardiola’s squad plans for the new season?
