Man City have £44.5m bid rejected, Chelsea ask to be kept informed

Manchester City have had a £44.5 million bid rejected for Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy.

The move has hit the latest stumbling block after a long drawn out which has seen the defender himself take to social media to post a series of hints that a move is going ahead.

There appears to have been a media brief as multiple news outlets report that Monaco have rejected the bid for one reason – they value Mendy higher than they do Kyle Walker. Manchester City recently shelled out a figure of around £50 million for Kyle Walker, making him the most expensive defender in the world.

Monaco now want Manchester City to break the world record fee for a defender once again and at least match what they paid for Kyle Walker, although they are pushing for more.

Chelsea have also enquired about Mendy and have asked to be kept informed about the situation as Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his defence for the upcoming season.

Many City fans are calling for the club to simply stump up the cash and get a deal completed before Chelsea can swoop Mendy away – the saga is sure to continue for a while yet.
