Multiple sources in Turkey reported on Monday that Manchester City midfielder Fernando was close to joining Süper Lig giants Galatasaray after agreeing personal terms of €2.2million per season over a three-year contract with the option of a fourth.
Many stories linking City players to Turkish tend to die out quickly, but Fernando’s transfer to Galatasaray appears to be very real, at least if quotes posted in Turkey’s press today are legitimate.
Fernando’s former FC Porto teammate Maicon has recently joined Galatasaray and outlets such as Sporx claim that their friendship is one of the factors in Fernando’s decision to accept a move to the Türk Telekom Stadium.

But it is quotes attributed to Fernando himself that would seem to confirm that a deal is on the verge of being completed.
Fernando is quoted by various sources as saying: “The clubs are discussing the final details. I’m aware of how big Galatasaray is, I’m very excited to be wearing the Galatasaray shirt after Porto and Manchester City.”
Assuming these comments are real, Fernando’s move to Galatasaray should be done shortly. The 29-year-old was left off City’s flight to the US, a big hint that he is sorting out a move away.
There are conflicting reports as to whether this would be a permanent or loan deal, with City hoping to receive a fee in the region of €8million (£7million) for the defensive midfielder.
