Manchester City fly to the US with Nasri and Mangala on flight, Sané and Touré missing

Manchester City jetted off to America today to begin the pre-season schedule, which will include matches against Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham.

There were some surprise inclusions in the traveling party and also some notable absentees.

Several who weren’t expected to fly, including Eliaquim Mangala, Samir Nasri and Jason Denayer were on the plane, while Yaya Touré, Leroy Sané and Nicolas Otamendi were among those absent. Could Nasri and Mangala have a second chance if they impress Pep?

Kelechi Iheanacho, who is expected to join Leicester City shortly, did not fly, nor did Wilfried Bony, who was spotted leaving the CFA today. Fernando, Fabian Delph, Bernardo Silva and Claudio Bravo (extended breaks after the Confederations Cup for the latter two) were others who appeared to be missing.

Touré and Sané are traveling separately for “logistical reasons” according to the Daily Mail, while Otamendi, who has been mysteriously absent from pre-season training, is also expected to join up soon.

Kyle Walker has joined up with his new teammates and is also in the squad, sat near John Stones and honorary Yorkshireman Kevin De Bruyne on the plane.

A host of young players have also traveled, including Patrick Roberts, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Tosin Adarabioyo, Brahim Diaz, Aro Muric, Daniel Grimshaw and Phil Foden – who was adorably photographed with David Silva (who’d guess there is 15 years between them!?). Jadon Sancho, to the surprise of some, hasn’t been spotted in any images.

City have yet to release a full squad list, so it is possible that some snuck on the flight without being seen in images, and some, like Touré and Sané, will join up later.
