Roma ‘one step away’ from winger just days after Manchester City have €8m bid rejected

Manchester City are at risk of losing out in the race to sign Turkish wonderkid Cengiz Ünder, just days after his club Başakşehir confirmed that they had rejected a bid from City said to be in the region of €8million (£7million).

City were unable to agree a fee with Başakşehir, the new home of Gaël Clichy, after four hours of negotiations on Thursday, and may now miss out on the in-demand Turkey international, considered by some the country’s best young talent since Enes Ünal.

Led by new sporting director Monchi, famous from his days at Sevilla for his eye for talent and shrewd deals, Serie A side Roma are now just ‘one step away’ from signing Ünder according to an exclusive report by TMW.

A fee isn’t mentioned but Roma’s offer is presumably superior to the one that arrived via Manchester City’s delegation in Istanbul, and the player could soon be playing his club football with ex-Blue, Edin Džeko, at the Stadio Olimpico – unless, that is, City flex their financial muscles and move quickly with an improved offer to Başakşehir.
