When it comes to Brazil vs. Argentina, there are no friends on opposite sides – even if two players represent the same club throughout the year. Yesterday’s ‘friendly’ between the two nations had an example of that, as Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi made it his personal mission to make life as difficult as possible for Gabriel Jesus.

After roughing 20-year-old Jesus up, Otamendi caught him with an elbow in stoppage time, forcing the Seleção sensation to leave the pitch on a stretcher.

The initial report from Edu Gaspar, Brazil’s team coordinator, was that there was nothing wrong with Gabriel Jesus and he would be fine. This information was relayed to chiefs at Manchester City.

However, Globo Esporte now reports that after further tests, a fracture to Gabriel Jesus’ left orbit (eye bone) has been discovered.

Gabriel Jesus has been withdrawn from the Brazil squad and Diego Souza will replace him in the next game against Australia, with no replacement due to be called up.
