Despite signing (but still not announcing…) Ederson Moraes in a big money deal, Manchester City are still being linked with goalkeepers.
Today’s claim from the legendary Sky Italia transfer guru, Gianluca Di Marzio, is that City are showing interest in 34-year-old Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is also keen on a reunion with his former shot-stopper, who does not intend to extend his contract at Napoli. The Spaniard is out of contract in 2018, so would be available for a modest fee, with Di Marzio mentioning the two Premier League sides are being interested.
The only logical reason for City to sign Reina would be if Claudio Bravo were to leave the club, but speaking earlier today, the Chilean didn’t sound like a man on his way.
“My future is tied to Manchester City for a long time yet,” Bravo told AS Chile. “Ederson? All my life I’ve had competition. I knew the situation a long time ago and I am not worried.”
Reina has the qualities and technical attributes to be a back-up goalkeeper at Manchester City, but despite the reliability of Di Marzio, it is hard to see this deal happening unless a good offer arrives for Bravo and he is convinced to move on.
