Gaël Clichy may have found his next club after becoming one of five senior player to be released by Manchester City this summer.
According to a report by Charlie Wyett, football editor of The Sun, Liverpool have offered the experienced 31-year-old a two-year deal to move to Anfield on a free transfer this summer. The Daily Mail also reports Liverpool’s interest in the Frenchman.
The contract, which Clichy is now considering, would also include the option of a third year and allow Clichy to remain in the north of England after six years at Manchester City.
Like City, Liverpool have problems at left-back and have often used former Blue, James Milner, in the position of late. Signing Clichy would give them another natural left-back, one with years of Premier League and Champions League experience.
A week ago, Liverpool suddenly emerged as the bookies’ favourite to sign Clichy which could give this story some substance. French giants PSG have also been linked with a move to take the former Cannes player back to his homeland, while Crystal Palace were said to be considering a double move for Clichy and Bacary Sagna.
