Is Jesus Navas on his way back to Sevilla this summer? The 31-year-old has a one-year contract offer on the table from Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola so impressed by his work as a makeshift right-back that he wants him to act as back-up in the position next season.
However, Navas’ beloved Sevilla have offered their golden boy a three-year contract to return home, and the World Cup winner has never hid his desire to one day return to Nerviónr.
According to Estadio Deportivo, an agreement between Sevilla and Navas’ representatives is close and the winger is edging nearer to an emotional return to the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
And he has a fan in Pablo Blanco, the legendary academy director of Sevilla, who discovered Navas ‘dodging puddles’ during a match in Los Palacios.
“I would put him in my house or pick him up from Manchester myself if the club asked,” Blanco told Canal Sur, laughing and proud. “Jesús Navas is an academy player, a reflection of the work we do.”
Blanco also has a view that some might not agree with, claiming that Navas is a better player now than when he left Sevilla in a £14.9 million deal four years ago.
“Jesus Navas is better now than when he left. He has won many things. This year he has played as a full-back in Guardiola’s side.”
Sevilla staff are not hiding their affection for Jesus Navas and unless Manchester City’s offer is very convincing, he may well be part of the exodus this summer. And unlike most of those going, this won’t be with Pep Guardiola’s blessing, as the contract offer proves.
