Speculation is rising that 18-year-old AC Milan sensation, Gianluigi Donnarumma, could be the chosen one to be Manchester City’s next goalkeeper.
The Daily Mail yesterday reported that City are accelerating their interest in ‘Giglio’, widely considered to be the best young shot-stopper in the world.
This story is on the cover of today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, the famous Italian sports newspaper, with the headline “Guardiola calls Gigio”. It’s very important to know that this doesn’t mean Pep literally picked up the phone to talk to Donnarumma, but refers to his comments made yesterday.
Asked about Donnarumma at his press conference today, Guardiola said: “He is a top goalkeeper. Definitely. He has huge skill for 18.”
Gazzetta talks about interest from both Manchester City and Manchester United, speculating that a Manchester derby could break out to sign Donnarumma. There is also still a decent chance that he could stay at AC Milan, but they must find an agreement with his agent, Mino Raiola, for that to happen, with the youngster out of contract in 2018.
