Pep Guardiola could be reunited with one of his favourite protégés from Bayern Munich, with Stuttgarter Zeitung reporting this afternoon that Joshua Kimmich has decided to leave the Allianz Arena this summer.
Despite being under contract until 2020, the 22-year-old has told Bayern bosses that he wants a transfer, with Stuttgarter Zeitung claiming they have received information that he is unhappy with coach Carlo Ancelotti.
The versatile Germany international has made 15 Bundesliga starts this season, coming off the bench another 11 times. In the Champions League, he has been limited to just 3 starts. But with Philipp Lahm retiring at the end of the season, the signals from Munich have been that Kimmich will replace him and get more game time.
However, this new report states that despite Karl-Heinz Rummenigge saying Kimmich will replace Lahm, the player has already decided to leave the club.
Manchester City and Kimmich’s former club, RB Leipzig, are named as the favourites to sign Kimmich. It was under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage that the young talent grew and improved as a player, and if this story is accurate, the two could be together again at the Etihad Stadium next season.
UPDATE: Bayern Munich have issued a statement, strongly denying these claims, insisting Kimmich will remain, and saying they will take legal action against Stuttgarter Zeitung for this ‘fallacy’.

UPDATE #2: Despite Bayern’s strongly worded statement, reliable Kicker reveals that Kimmich is dissatisfied at Bayern and would like to get a ‘clear perspective’ on his future there. The publication also mentions interest from Manchester City, among others.
