Man City chiefs working discreetly on ‘amazing, most expensive’ summer transfer – report

Do Manchester City have something huge planned for this summer’s transfer market? In his latest article for Mundo Deportivo, well-known journalist Francesc Aguilar reckons something big could be about to go down at the Etihad.

Aguilar drops several transfer bombs in the article, including a claim that unless he breaks a promise to Jose Mourinho, Antoine Griezmann will be a Manchester United player before the start of next season. He adds that Kun Agüero is not in Mourinho’s plans, contrary to claims by Duncan Castles and others.

It is his paragraph on Manchester City that is the most intriguing however, suggesting he knows something but can’t say too much. Aguilar says that club chiefs Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain are working very discreetly on a true ‘bomb’, and if they can pull it off it will be the ‘most amazing of the summer window’.

The reporter adds that City are relying a lot on Gabriel Jesus and want to add another attacking player of a very high level. The cost would be ‘many millions’ and undoubtedly the most expensive of the summer, even more than what Paulo Dybala would cost were he to leave Juventus.

With Griezmann looking set for United, the number of players he could be referring to are few in number. Lionel Messi, Neymar, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kylian Mbappé are four names that spring to mind who would command enormous fees. Dybala is another, but considering Aguilar said this mystery player would cost more than the Juventus star, he can be ruled out.

It promises to be a busy and exciting summer at the Etihad, with players coming and going… but could the club be about to stun us all with the biggest deal of the summer?
