If Manchester City are to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, and if you consider all of the rumours that have been written in the European media, it was always likely to be one of two: Ederson Moraes of Benfica and England U21 international Jordan Pickford of Sunderland.
Yesterday, Ederson, the most likely of the two to join City based on all available evidence, was suddenly linked with a move to neighbours Manchester United. This might have made many think that Pickford could be on his way to the Etihad from relegated Sunderland.
However, if Pickford has been on Pep Guardiola’s radar, the Catalan coach appears set to miss out, with The Northern Echo reporting that Everton are increasingly confident of landing Pickford in a £17 million deal.

David Moyes’ side are heading to the Championship will have to cash in on Pickford, one of their most valuable assets.
Pickford’s expected move to Everton would suggest that the 23-year-old is not City’s first priority if they are in the market for a goalkeeper, which could mean that “Operation Ederson” is a go.
