Former Manchester City prospect John Guidetti has shown that he still has his former club in his heart ahead of Celta Vigo’s Europa League semi-final clash with Manchester United.
The 25-year-old, who was at City from 2008 until 2015, was speaking to UEFA about the upcoming two-legged tie and brought up his past with City.
“I played in England and lived in Manchester for six years [while playing for Manchester City], so I follow both of the teams there,” Guidetti said.
“United are a very good team. Obviously they’ve got a good manager, a fantastic stadium, and they’re one of the favourites to win the Europa League, but as they say “Manchester is blue” and that’s how it will be when we visit there as well, because we are Celta Vigo and we will try to keep the city blue.”
Guidetti has made 37 appearances in all competitions for Celta this season, scoring 8 goals and registering 7 assists. He was once considered one of City’s brightest prospects before a mystery virus almost forced him to retire. The Swede fought his way back and after a couple of loan spells, joined Celta on a free transfer in 2015.
But it is obvious that he still holds City close to his heart and will hopefully “keep the city blue” as he puts it when Celta face United in Europe’s secondary competition.
