“Jesus Navas: The Homecoming” draws ever closer after comments from the Sevilla president that the first contacts have taken place over a deal to re-sign the Manchester City winger.
It turns out that the deal could have happened much sooner, with Sevilla boss, Jorge Sampaoli, revealing last night that the Andalusian club came very close to signing Navas on loan from City this season.
“Navas is a player of this house. We wanted him this season and tried to see if we could sign him on loan from City,” the Argentine coach told reporters.
“He was close, but City, because of his performances, decided to keep him.
“Having a Sevillian player at the club would have been a plus. And if he comes next year, it will be a plus.”
With club management speaking so openly about bringing Navas back to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, it appears that confidence is high of completing a deal, despite rival interest from Serie A side Roma.
Navas is one of six Manchester City first-team players out of contract on June 30, along with Yaya Touré, Willy Caballero, Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gaël Clichy, and so far it appears none of them have been offered new deals and may have to find new clubs for next season.
For a limited time, you can get your hands on a Manchester City official shirt from just £30 for adults and £22.50 for children.
