The morning after a so-called exclusive by Neil Custis of The Sun that Joe Hart is set to join Liverpool for £20 million comes a completely different story.
According to ESPN FC, citing a ‘a senior Reds source’, Liverpool have no interest in signing Hart from Manchester City this summer as they consider him inferior to their current goalkeeping options, Simon Mignolet and former City academy ‘keeper Loris Karius. Ouch.
The Liverpool source told ESPN that Custis’ article was “completely fictitious,” with Klopp not even rating England’s number one as highly as what he has.
Hart is still expected to be sold by Manchester City this summer, but it seems doubtful he’ll be playing his club football at Anfield when he returns to England. The City hero, who turned 30 today, has recently been criticised by the Torino chairman for some high-profile mistakes, and only one goalkeeper has made more errors leading to goals in Serie A than Hart this season.
So where will Joe Hart end up? With Liverpool allegedly ruling themselves out of the race, options include Chelsea (if Thibaut Courtois leaves), Everton and West Ham. If a move doesn’t work out for Joe Hart at the end of the season, he will be set to spend his time as third choice keeper at Manchester City, he may have more chance of winning a Gala bingo bonus than winning a place in Pep’s plans.
