Manchester City will not be signing either Joshua Kimmich or Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich – if you believe the words of the Bavarians’ head coach, Carlo Ancelotti.
The talented young duo have been linked with moves to City of late and what both have in common is that they both flourished under Pep Guardiola, but have seen their time on the pitch limited since Ancelotti took over a year ago.
However, with a number of their superstars ageing, Bayern are looking ahead to the future and see the two, Kimmich in particular, as part of their long-term strategy.
“Kingsley Coman is staying here. He is important now and in the future,” Ancelotti said at his press conference today.
“Joshua Kimmich will also stay at FC Bayern next season.”
This comes just a day after Kicker reported that the German champions had received enquiries from Manchester City, Manchester United and two unnamed Spanish clubs concerning Kimmich’s availability. But with Philipp Lahm set to retire, a departure for Kimmich was always unlikely.
Coman, on the other hand, seemed more likely to depart the Allianz this summer. Bayern will activate their option to buy the player from Juventus for €21 million soon, but media outlets have suggested he could then be sold on for profit, with City at the head of the pack.
Of course, managers don’t always speak the truth and it’s normal for them to deny any player will leave their side, but as it stands both Joshua Kimmich and Kingsley Coman look unlikely to join Pep at the Etihad this summer.
