With news that Benfica goalkeeper Ederson Moraes could be on his way to the Etihad, Claudio Bravo’s future at Manchester City is already in major doubt after a disastrous debut campaign that has seen him relegated to second-choice behind Willy Caballero.

As he showed at FC Barcelona, the Chile captain is not one to accept a secondary role for too long, and if City do sign a new ‘keeper, he may want out – and quickly.

And according to AS in Spain, Villarreal could offer him an escape route from City this summer. The ‘Yellow Submarine’ need a new goalkeeper after losing Sergio Asenjo for seven months after ruptured his ACL for the fourth time in his career, and Bravo is very experienced in La Liga.

This deal would make sense on many levels and could mean a new contract for Willy Caballero, City’s current number one, who is out of contract in June. However, as AS points out, Bravo’s hefty salary could make the deal difficult for Villarreal, unless City are willing to subsidise it or the player accept a wage cut.

Until the end of March, the City Store is marking down some iconic Retro Shirts to £20 (£18 for Cityzens).
