Manchester City endured a miserable night in Monaco on Wednesday, crashing out of the Champions League on away goals after being overpowered and outplayed the principality side for much of the 90 minutes at the Stade Louis II.

What the match proved beyond doubt was that the Manchester City squad, while very talented in parts, still needs considerable work to meet Pep Guardiola’s high standards and demand.

Behind the scenes, the groundwork for summer deals will already be taking place and it appears that something may have been going on OFF the pitch last night in luxurious Monaco, a playground for the rich and famous.

According to France Football journalist, Nabil Djellit‏, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was in town and dined with his ‘counterpart’ from Manchester City. City does not have a president and this could mean any one of Khaldoon Al Mubarak (Chairman), Ferran Soriano (Chief Executive Officer) or Txiki Begiristain (Sporting Director), but of more interest is what the topic of conversation might have been.

Could Perez have been discussing Isco with his dinner guest from City? Might the old subject of Sergio Agüero moving to the Santiago Bernabéu have been brought up? Or could it simply have been a friendly dinner between two bigwigs in the world of football?

Whatever the reason, whenever chiefs from Manchester City and Real Madrid meet up, it’s bound to get people talking. It promises to be an interesting summer ahead at the Etihad…
