Referee appointed for Sunderland vs. Manchester City

Manchester City visit relegation threatened Sunderland this Sunday, facing a former bogey team and former bogey manager. Sunderland were a constant menace to Manchester City during the Roberto Mancini era, while City had a poor record against Moyes’ Everton. Since then, City’s record has improved dramatically against the Black Cats, while Moyes’ Manchester United were regularly manhandled by City.

City won the reverse fixture 2-1 back in August but can expect a Sunderland side sitting rock bottom of the Premier League and fighting for their lives this weekend.

The experienced Martin Atkinson has been named referee for this encounter, his first City appointment since the 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in December.

The match officials for Sunday’s game in full are:

Referee: Martin Atkinson
Assistants: S Child, A Holmes
Fourth official: P Tierney
