Remember the Gabriel Jesus to Inter Milan story (later put to bed by his agent)? Owned by the super-rich Chinese retail giant, Suning Commerce Group, Inter are certainly ambitious and have money to spend, but some of their ideas seem to be bordering on the delusional.

And the latest link to a Manchester City star is likely to draw a similar response to the last – plenty of laughter. According to an exclusive report by TMW, Inter have possibly City’s biggest name in their sights… the manager, Pep Guardiola!

Inter are currently sixth in Serie A and talk is that their current coach, Stefano Pioli, will be on his way out come June. And TMW boldly claims that the name of Pep Guardiola is being spoken of in the corridor of power at the San Siro as the leading target tor eplace Pioli. Pep has a summer home in Abruzzo, a beautiful and scenic Italian region, east of Rome, and the suggestion is that Inter could try to convince him then.

If Inter can’t lure Pep to Italy – which, of course, they will not – then Diego Simeone, a former player of the club, is another candidate to take over the hot-seat that has recently ejected Roberto Mancini and Frank de Boer.

If we were still in 2007, City would certainly have something to fear from Inter approaching a player or even the manager, but much has changed in the past decade, and while Pep might fancy coaching in Italy some day, the idea of him going there as soon as this summer seems preposterous.
