The FA have released the following statement after Manchester City appealed Fernandinho’s red card against Burnley.

“Fernandinho will serve a four-match suspension with immediate effect after his claim of wrongful dismissal was rejected today [Wednesday 4 January 2017] following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

The Manchester City midfielder was sent off for serious foul play during the game against Burnley on Monday 2 January 2017. His suspension includes the standard sanction of an additional game as it was his second dismissal of the season.”

Fernandinho received his second Premier League red card of the season during the first half of City’s victory over Burnley on Monday, resulting in the extended ban.

The central midfielder will now miss Friday’s FA Cup game against West Ham United, as well as Premier League games against Everton, Tottenham Hostpur and West Ham United. If Manchester City reach the fourth round of the FA Cup, then he will miss that game instead of the league match against West Ham United.
