Manchester City were already guaranteed a spot in the Champions League last 16 going into last night’s draw with Celtic, but three potential opponents were determined on the same night. Three others will follow after Wednesday night’s finale to the 2016-17 Champions League group stage.
For now, City’s possible opponents in the last 16 are:
2. Atletico Madrid
4. Juventus or Sevilla
5. Borussia Dortmund or Real Madrid
Normally, finishing second guarantees a hellish opponent in the last 16, but dependent on tonight’s results, there could be several winnable two-legged ties for City, notably Napoli, Sevilla or in-form Monaco.
Had City actually won the group ahead of Barcelona, the list of teams would not have been much easier – Bayern Munich included. Juventus and Real Madrid could also yet end up finishing second in their groups.
The draw for the Champions League last 16 is on Monday 12th December at 11am (GMT).
