Samuel Eto’o: Guardiola is still the best in the world, Mourinho is being left behind

African legend Samuel Eto’o knows Pep Guardiola well, having won a treble at FC Barcelona under his management, and has spoken out following criticism thrown at the Catalan in recent weeks.

Eto’o, who won a treble under Pep during his Barça days, chatted to Téléfoot in France and came to the defence of his former boss, saying, “Pep has everything to succeed at City. For me, he is still the best coach in the world.”

Guardiola’s ideas are known to take time to implement, and the Cameroonian alluded to that, adding, “He always wants his teams to play and he will impose this idea in England. His great strength is that he never changes his ideas. Technically, Pep remains the best. There’s nothing else to be said.”

The former Chelsea striker was less complimentary of Jose Mourinho, implying that his methods may be becoming outdated, “He asked for three years to relaunch Manchester United, but you have to get your team playing, you can’t defend continually. Football isn’t like that anymore.”

Pep and Mourinho are two of world football’s most successful coaches, but are enduring some difficulties at their new clubs, with City dropping down to 4th following yesterday’s defeat to Chelsea, and United well off the pace in 6th after Everton struck a late equaliser against them today.
