Manchester City 1-3 Chelsea: Player Ratings

Claudio Bravo – 5

Nowhere near any of the goals – can’t be blamed for the first and the third – but dreadful positioning for the second.

John Stones – 6

Put it this way, he wasn’t our worst defender.

Nicolas Otamendi – 4

Pathetic performance. Absolutely dreadful. Repeatedly went to ground far too easily (what’s new?) and at fault for Chelsea’s second goal.

Aleksandar Kolarov – 5

Painfully slow. Not as bad as Otamendi, but not far off. Looks a shadow of the player we saw in Pep’s opening ten games.

Jesus Navas – 7.5

One of City’s better players. Got the ‘assist’ for City’s opener, and should have had another had it not been for De Bruyne missing when it was easier to score. I’ve decided against awarding a ‘Man of the Match’, but if I had to choose one, it would probably be Navas.

Fernandinho – 6

Would have been awarded a seven had he not lost his head. One of our better players today, but the red card has overshadowed that.

Ilkay Gundogan – 6

Struggled to make any impact on the game, leaving much of the work for Fernandinho. A couple of nice touches here and there.

Leroy Sané – 6.5

He was a bit suspect defensively but looked dangerous in the attacking third. Hopefully he can now push on, after a slow start to life in Manchester.

Kevin De Bruyne – 7.5

Some excellent deliveries into the box and looked our most dangerous player. Unfortunately, his miss was the turning point in the game, and so has to take some responsibility.

David Silva- 6.5

A solid performance from David. Perhaps not involved enough in the final third, but he was one of our better players.

Sergio Aguero – 4

A poor performance from Aguero. Spurned a number of good chances and then compiled City’s misery with an absolutely disgraceful challenge on David Luiz. Should be ashamed of himself.

Subs:

Gael Clichy – 6

Didn’t have much of an impact after he replaced Sané.

Yaya Touré – 6

Replaced Ilkay Gundogan and looked assured in possession. Unfortunately he was unable to produce one of his typical moments of magic, but it was a decent cameo from the Ivorian.

Kelechi Iheanacho – 6

Replaced John Stones with twelve minutes to go but was unable to affect the game.
