Experienced and often controversial Turkish referee, Cüneyt Çakır, has been appointed to oversee Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League trip against Borussia Mönchengladbach this Wednesday.
Though one of the most highly regarded referees in Europe, Çakır has had his share of infamous incidents, such as sending off Nani during a high profile Manchester United vs. Real Madrid clash several years ago, an incident that infuriated Alex Ferguson.
In terms of City games, Çakır sent off Mario Balotelli during a UEFA Europa League game against Dynamo Kyiv five years ago, while more recently he oversaw a 2-1 win away at Porto in 2012 and the 0-0 draw with Real Madrid last season.
