Vincent Kompany withdrawn from Belgium team to face Netherlands

It’s that time again, when we worry for the health and well-being of club captain Vincent Kompany. The often injured City skipper was named in the starting XI for Belgium’s game tonight against the Netherlands, along with teammate Kevin De Bruyne.

However, some time later, Belgium announced that Kompany had been withdrawn from the team and replaced by Watford defender Christian Kabasele.

The exact reason why the 30-year-old was removed from the team has not yet been revealed, but initial reports suggest he left the warm-up early and that it could have been a precautionary move. We can only hope it is nothing serious, but will keep you updated on this situation.

20:25 UPDATE: HLN in Belgium is reporting that Kompany decided after the warm-up to not play as a precaution. There is no indication that he has suffered a new injury.

23:30 UPDATE: Belgian team coach Roberto Martínez has confirmed Kompany is NOT injured, telling the press, “There is no injury to Kompany. We didn’t want to take any risks with him and he did not feel well after the warm-up.”
