Manchester City keeping tabs on the ‘best young player in Belgium’

Manchester City’s recruitment of elite young players from across the globe could be about to continue. After capturing the likes of Leroy Sané, Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Marlos Moreno this summer, another exciting young attacker is being linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium.

According to the Sunday People, City are among the clubs keeping tabs on 19-year-old Jamaican winger Leon Bailey.

Bailey plays for Genk in Belgium and is considered one of the best young talents in a league renowned for its talent production – the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Vincent Kompany, Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois having started out there.

Bailey struck twice for Genk in their 3-2 defeat to Rapid Vienna in the Europa League last week, and it isn’t just City showing interest. Should the Blues follow up interest with a bid, they are likely to face competition from clubs in Spain and Italy.

The Sunday People claims that Bailey has a £3.2 million release clause, although there were reports from Belgium that Ajax made a £9.4 million bid for the young starlet in the summer, which would mean his release clause is much higher – if one actually exists.

So what is all the fuss about? Check out Leon Bailey in action:
