Earlier today, it seemed certain that Eliaquim Mangala was returning to FC Porto, the club that Manchester City bought the 25-year-old from a couple of years ago. The details were outlined, with a two-year loan arranged and City to pay 50 per cent of his wages.
O Jogo claim that in recent hours, a new opportunity has emerged that would be more financially advantageous for both Manchester City and Mangala. City want to recover as much of their massive outlay as possible, and it appears a team may have made a superior offer.
The mystery team is not named, but Tottenham have been one team rumoured to have eyes on the 25-year-old in the past week. China was also mooted earlier this summer, but their transfer window is now closed and January would be the earliest he could head over there.
