After easing past Steaua Bucharest in the qualifiers, Manchester City have now learned who they will face in the group stage this season.
To the surprise of no one, as this happens almost every year, City have been given one of the toughest groups. While Leicester and Spurs found themselves with groups that wouldn’t look out of place in the Europa League, City have been handed the team everyone wants to avoid, Barcelona.
For the second year running, Mönchengladbach are also grouped with City. Last year, City did a double over the Bundesliga side, though it took a 90th minute penalty in Germany to seal the win.
A less familiar opponent are Scottish champions Celtic, who City will face for the first time in this competition. Coached by Brendan Rodgers, City starlet Patrick Roberts is currently on loan there.
