Manchester City recruit Catalan doctor from Belgian league

Manchester City have raided the Belgian Jupiler League – for a new club doctor!

Dr. Eduardo Mauri has announced that he is leaving AS Eupen to join Pep Guardiola’s Etihad revolution, according to Belgian newspaper L’Avenir.

Mauri, who has been serving as chief of Eupen’s medical staff, attended the club’s 2-2 draw against Anderlecht on Sunday to say goodbye to players and staff.

“I have a new challenge in England,” Mauri is quoted as saying. It will be a big challenge given City’s injury record in recent seasons, but the 55-year-old has a glowing reputation. In May, it was reported that Vincent Kompany had visited Mauri in Barcelona in a bid to accelerate his recovery from injury.

The Barcelona-born doctor, a former footballer himself, has previously worked for Espanyol and the Qatar national team. His official role at Manchester City has yet to be announced, but it has been reported that the club have been after a new doctor, and recent reports suggested that Ricard Pruna, Barcelona’s famed club doctor, was a target.
