Enes Ünal’s step up from the Dutch second division to the Eredivisie is off to a flying start. The Manchester City striker, who spent last season on loan at Genk in Belgium before switching to NAC Breda in the Netherlands, is this year playing for FC Twente.
Twente headed to Groningen in the Eredivisie’s early kick-off today, a match which saw the visitors take a 3-0 lead in the first half courtesy of an incredible hat-trick by Ünal. He scored a long range effort in the 23rd minute, a sublime volley in the 36th minute, and then another strike from distance in the 39th minute. Groningen pulled it back to 3-3 in the second half, before Jari Oosterwijk won it for Twente at the death.
Ünal is still only 19 years old and appears to have a bright future in the game. Could it be under Pep Guardiola at City? Time will tell, but the £2 million signing from Bursaspor is doing all he can to impress so far at the Enschede-based club.
