Steaua Bucharest 0-5 Manchester City: Player Ratings

City demolished Steaua Bucharest on foreign soil today with a phenomenal performance. So, how did the players rate?

Willy Caballero – 7

Some erratic kicking at time, but the current number one made a couple of vital saves. In the second half he was a complete spectator.

Pablo Zabaleta – 7

Struggled initially, but grew in stature as the game went on, linking up with Raheem very well at times.

John Stones – 7

A nervous start with a wayward pass to Caballero, but City’s newest signing grew in confidence as the game went on. Made some great interceptions too.

Nicolas Otamendi – 8

Took to the system like a duck to water. His passing range from the back was excellent, and he was imperious in the air.

Aleksandar Kolarov – 7

Another solid showing from the rejuvenated Serbian. Supported Nolito well down the left and nearly scored himself with a volley.

Fernandinho – 8

No wonder Pep said he can play in ten positions! Showing up all over the pitch, the Brazil star was impressive throughout with a tireless performance.

David Silva – 8

The long-serving Spaniard looks back to his mesmeric best. Scored City’s first goal and his all round play was exceptional.

Kevin De Bruyne – 8

Set up Nolito with an absolutely sublime pass that cut open a busy defence. Already starting to adapt to Guardiola’s system and had the best pass completion percentage of any City player.

Raheem Sterling – 8

A player reborn. Back to his best, he left his full-back for dead on numerous occasions. Set up Aguero with a lovely cushioned touch.

Nolito – 8

Played his position very well, adding a goal and an assist. A constant threat throughout, and his movement is absolutely top class.

Sergio Aguero – 8 (Man of the Match)

Despite missing not one but TWO penalties, he responded in the best way possible by scoring three! All of which were absolutely super finishes.

Subs:

Bacary Sagna – 7

Slotted in seamlessly, and seems to be enjoying his adjusted role in the side.

Gael Clichy – N/A

A late substitute as Pep Guardiola continues to rotate his full-backs.

Fernando – N/A

Came on for the hard-working De Bruyne with ten minutes to go.
