Schalke plan for life after Manchester City target Leroy Sané as deal edges closer

Manchester City and Schalke have yet to agree a fee for Leroy Sané despite the player himself approving a four-year deal, but there are signs that a deal could be edging closer.

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, a reliable source for both Schalke and Borussia Dortmund news, the Gelsenkirchen-based club are already looking at how to use the money they expect from City.

Schalke are thinking of investing some of the profits from Sané on Brazilian international midfielder Luiz Gustavo, who plays for rivals Wolfsburg. Other German media sources link the club with a move for Bursaspor’s Hungarian winger Balázs Dzsudzsák, who plays on the right – where Sané played for most of last season. They appear to be operating on the basis that Sané will be leaving the club imminently.

Though City and Schalke have still to reach a compromise, it is looking like a matter of time, and talks are ongoing. Ruhr Nachrichten claim that according to insiders, Schalke expect at least €50 million (£41.8 million) plus various bonuses from City for Sané.

Yesterday, Sky Deutschland’s Dirk Schlarmann raised alarm bells with a tweet (below) claiming both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are still in the race for Sané. Though this could be true, it has the hallmarks of a club leak, in this case Schalke trying to panic City into raising their offer.

City will be hoping the transfer can be done soon, along with the signing of John Stones, so that the two players can join up with the squad in China, where the Blues will face Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund later this month.
