Cast your mind back five months to February 1 2016 – the day Manchester City announced that Pep Guardiola would take over from Manuel Pellegrini.
Now, July 1 has arrived and Pep Guardiola is officially the manager of Manchester City Football Club. Something that City fans could only have imagined in their wildest dreams, is now reality.
The man widely known as the greatest football coach on the planet has taken the reigns at little City and it’s going to be one hell of a ride. The Pep factor has already kicked in, numerous names have been linked with a move to the Etihad and others have already arrived.
Pep Guardiola is one of the most decorated managers in history, boasting 21 major trophies and having managed two of the greatest clubs in the world – Barcelona and Bayern Munich. He’s trained some of the best players in the world, Iniesta, Xavi, Messi and Robben to name a few, and now, he’s found himself at the Etihad Stadium, ready for the next chapter of his career.
It’s not a bad time to be a City fan really and Pep’s arrival is a clear statement of intent from the club that were for so long just known as the “noisy neighbours”. This is massive and what comes next may well be the greatest period this club has ever seen.
It’s exciting, it’s captivating, it’s enthralling, it’s Manchester City and it’s Pep Guardiola. Bring on the next season and the new era.
