Fofana joined City from Lorient three years ago for an undisclosed fee and was capped by France all the way up to under-19 level. After playing for City’s Elite Development Squad he was sent out on loan to Fulham and Bastia, making a good impression in both stints.
With a year left on his contract and first-team prospects looking slim, Fofana continues his career in Italy. Udinese could pay up to £4 million for the Frenchman after handing over an initial fee of £2.5 million to City. No further clauses have been mentioned, such as whether City have a buy-back option or receive a percentage of any future sale.
