Manchester City have lodged a £16.7 million bid for one of Brazilian football’s greatest young talents, Gabriel Jesus, according to Duncan Castles today.
City have matched a £16.7 million release clause that only applies for Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, PSG or Real Madrid, with his normal clause at £27.8 million. Palmeiras have received offers of 19-year-old Gabriel of £13.2 million from Barcelona, who Castles claims see him as a potential long-term successor to the unsettled Neymar, and £14.6 million from Italian champions Juventus.
Should City’s offer be successful it would be a rare big money move for a player still plying his trade in South America, but Gabriel Jesus is considered one of the best prospects since Neymar in his homeland. City do not expect to encounter problems in securing a UK work permit for the youngster, despite the fact he is uncapped at senior level for Brazil.
