Things have become quiet on the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang front, but today’s Times has some news on City’s reported pursuit of the Borussia Dortmund star.
According to article authors Matt Hughes and Paul Hirst, City plan to return to Dortmund for 26-year-old Aubameyang, suggesting the initial reports were true – that City want the player, despite denials from both clubs.
The report claim that any deal is being held up by Dortmund’s demand for a British transfer record fee of £65 million, considered excessive by City, and also BVB’s pursuit of a replacement. Replacing a 39-goal predator like Aubameyang is very difficult for Dortmund, though Romelu Lukaku, one of the names recently linked with the Westfalenstadion, could be a candidate.
The article also says that Pep Guardiola has been told that he will have the final say over all transfers, something he was denied in Munich and a contributing factor to his decision to leave after three seasons there.
