On This Day – May 6: Yaya’s brace sinks Newcastle as City inch closer to the title (2012)

On May 6 in City history…

1989: A classic “Typical City” moment as the Blues blow a three goal half-time lead at home to Bournemouth, with the Cherries coming back from 3-0 down to level 3-3. A win would have secured promotion for the team, who were left needing a point to gain promotion to Division One.

2012: City take a massive step towards the title after a hard fought 2-0 win away at Newcastle. Yaya Toure was the hero, scoring two wonderful goals, meaning Roberto Mancini’s side knew a win against Queens Park Rangers would earn them their first title in fourty-four years.
