On May 4 in City history…
1966: City seal promotion to Division One with Colin Bell heading the Blues to 1-0 win at Rotherham. It was the first big achievement for City under the management of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison, and the promotion sparked an era of success for the club.
1984: City’s hopes of being promoted to Division One are shattered after a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea. The result left City in third place, behind Sheffield Wednesday, who had seven points more with just two games remaining.
