On This Day

On This Day – April 28: City beat Portsmouth to win the FA Cup (1934)

On April 28 in City history…

1934: City lift the FA Cup after a 2-1 victory over Portsmouth. The game was witnessed by over 93,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium and a brace from Fred Tilson was enough to clinch England’s most prestigious trophy for the Blues.

2007: City are beaten 2-0 at home by Aston Villa after Joey Barton misses a penalty. Despite being cheered on by over 40,000 fans, City were outclassed by the Midlands side, and the Blues’ form as the season grinded to a halt (0 wins the last 6 games) was a major concern going into the summer.

Happy Birthday: Earl Barrett (49)
