City 0-0 Real Madrid: player ratings

JOE HART – 8 (Man of the Match)

Made some HUGE saves, particularly the big one from Pepe in the second half. His kicking was also good.

BACARY SAGNA – 7

Dealt with the threat of Bale well, and looked to support Navas when possible.

VINCENT KOMPANY – 7

A solid return for the skipper. Defended expertly alongside Otamendi, and we’ll need a similar performance next week.

NICOLAS OTAMENDI – 7

Like Kompany, he was impressive. Made many crucial tackles and more than justified his selection ahead of Mangala.

GAEL CLICHY – 7

Shackled Vasquez very well in what was another good performance from him. He’s performing with great consistency this season.

JESUS NAVAS – 7

Worked his socks off to protect Sagna, and defended superbly against the tricky Marcelo.

FERNANDO – 8

Lost count of how many tackles he made, but he seemed to be everywhere and protected the back four well. He’s loving these European nights.

FERNANDINHO – 6

Tonight was a game in which the energetic Brazilian struggled. Energy and application was there, but he struggled when in possession to start attacks.

DAVID SILVA – N/A

It was a huge blow to see him go off, and hopefully we’ll see him again this season.

KEVIN DE BRUYNE – 6

Starved of service, but he still ran his socks off, and defended well against Carvajal in the second half.

SERGIO AGUERO – 6

Like De Bruyne he struggled to be involved, but he still put in a good shift against Ramos and Pepe.

SUBS:

KELECHI IHEANACHO – 6

Worked tirelessly, but couldn’t get involved enough to cause any serious problems to a solid Real Madrid defence.

RAHEEM STERLING – 6

Seems short of fitness, and was given a golden chance from Aguero’s pass, which he failed to control.
