On This Day – April 13: Liverpool controversially edge out City in the 2013/14 title race

On April 13 in City history…

1998: Manchester City were left frustrated after a 1-0 home defeat to Birmingham City. Despite being willed on by 29,000 at Maine Road, City couldn’t find an equaliser as their indifferent form continued.

2014: Manchester City were beaten in controversial circumstances by Liverpool in what was billed as a title decider. Liverpool led 2-0 before David Silva took centre stage to inspire a comeback, but Phillipe Coutinho won the game for Brendan Rodgers’ side. The game was marred by contentious decisions, with Luis Suarez and Martin Skrtel both fortunate to stay on the pitch. City would have the last laugh that season, though.

Happy Birthday: Tony Towers (64), Bobby McDonald (61), Gerry Creaney (46)
