On This Day

On This Day – March 31: City come back to draw 3-3 with Sunderland… an important point

On March 31 in City history…

2001: Manchester City suffer a 3-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa in the Premier League. Despite a typically impressive attendance of 34,243 at Maine Road, City were outplayed, and Shaun Goater’s goal provided nothing more than a consolation in what was an ill-fated season for City.

2012: City somehow claw their way back from 1-3 down to draw 3-3 with Sunderland and keep Roberto Mancini’s side in the title race. Two goals from Mario Balotelli, before a late rocket from Kolarov secured what was at the time an unlikely point. A point that turned out to be crucial in a season where the title would be decided on goal difference.

Happy Birthday: Tal Ben Haim (34)
