On March 17 in City history…
1894: Then known as Ardwick AFC, the future Manchester City are humiliated by Small Heath in a 10-2 drubbing before 2,000 fans at Muntz Street. A. Bennett and Robert Robinson scored Ardwick’s goals on that day well over one hundred years ago. This remains City’s heaviest defeat if you classify Ardwick as an extension of the current Manchester City.
1934: City swat aside Aston Villa 6-1 in the FA Cup semi final at Leeds Road. Despite a 0-0 bore draw against the same opposition just ten days earlier, City left Villa battered and bruised in this fixture, and would go on to beat Portsmouth in the cup final.
