On This Day – March 16: Colin “The King” Bell joins City + Kinkladze’s legendary goal

On March 16 in City history…

1966: Manchester City sign arguably the best player in their history as they swoop for Bury midfielder Colin Bell. The man, who was later nicknamed “The King”, enjoyed what can only be described as a long and prosperous career at City, and even in an era of new superstars he is often referred to as the club’s greatest ever player.

1996: Georgi Kinkladze lights up Maine Road with arguably the finest goal ever scored at that ground. In a match which needed quality, Kinkladze showcased all his quality, terrorising five Southampton players before nonchalantly chipping Dave Beasant in goal.

Happy Birthday: Terry Phelan (49), Jason Van Blerk (48)
