On This Day – March 13: City reach FA Cup semi-finals

On March 13 in City history…

1993: City fall to a 1-0 defeat against Leeds United before a crowd of 30,840 at Elland Road. David Rocastle, who would join City from Leeds later that year in a £2m deal, scored the only goal of the game. It was a setback for the Blues ahead of the Manchester derby, and they would finish the season in ninth place, a point above Arsenal.

2011: City reach the semi final of the FA Cup after a hard fought 1-0 win over Reading. Micah Richards scored the goal off a David Silva corner, and City moved one step closer to ending a 35 year trophy drought by securing a long awaited return to Wembley.

Happy Birthday: Martin “Buster” Phillips (40)
